As many of you know many businesses will be open on Thanksgiving and black Friday. This is becoming more common place and they are making it more mandatory. Many places, such as Kmart, are threatening to terminate employees who do not show up on Thanksgiving if they are scheduled, while turning around and telling the public that it isn't mandatory and they will only take volunteers. They are going to be open at 6 A.M. on Thanksgiving, and stay open through black Friday. As bad as this sounds, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Some places have put their employees above money making, and are closing on Thanksgiving, so they can be with family. One such place is Christopher & Banks and CJ Banks. They operate out of malls and will end up being fined tens of thousands of dollars because they will close. They are willing to take a hit for their employees. Thanksgiving and Kmart. thinkprogress.org/economy/2014/11/19/3594203/kmart-thanksgiving-requests-denied/Thanks so much for posting this. Our society is so very classed now, as well as disrespectful towards the humanity of holidays. The monied powers have no regard for others at all, only themselves and their bank accounts. There is no meaning to being human in human society if people are treated like slaves or robots. It would be good to list other companies that are not like this, in order to give them the praise they deserve. Anyone who knows of such respectful companies: please post about them on this thread. I found a post providing a list of 25 retailers that won't be open on Thanksgiving: www.buzzfeed.com/jessicaprobus/these-chain-stores-are-actually-giving-their-employees-thankAlso, there's a petition that can be signed, asking Kmart not to force people to work on Thanksgiving: www.coworker.org/petitions/kmart-close-early-on-thanksgiving
