Now that the announcement trailer has been up for a while, I feel like discussing what seems to be going on in it. The following is merely fan speculation. The Setting, the Crown, and the Lord of Cinder:We are first introduced to a barren, ashen landscape littered with ruins of a fallen kingdom with a single castle remnant in its midst surrounded by mountains. Some fans think that this could be either Anor Londo or Drangleic Castle. I'm more inclined to believe that it's the latter, given the surrounding landscape although the former is not impossible given that (supposedly) Dark Souls III takes place many hundreds or thousands of years after DS & DSII, so the landscape may or may not have been altered since then. In all likelihood, though, it's probably an entirely new location. It has hunchbacks gathering toward the castle in what might be a shout-out to the Mystics from The Dark Crystal (1982). The crown. It's interesting that this was included in the trailer since crowns played a large role in the DLC for the previous game. At first, I thought it might have been Gwyn's old crown, but later realized that they look very different. Obviously once belonging to a monarch, for some reason this crown is precious, possibly even sacred, to the woman who reached for it and put it on. The inside of it had a strange, churning darkness to it. What significance the crown truly holds however is currently unknown. And now we get to the meat of the trailer: this guy. A towering figure of ember and ash entombed in a coffin that looks very much like the Giant Lord from DSII or even Artorias for that matter. Miyazaki refers to this entity as "a Lord of Cinder" while also stating that he is being resurrected and that the Dark Hero (the player) must defeat him. We know that Gwyn bore this title, and now it's obvious that there are multiple bearers of it. Whether passed down through the ages or existing together at the same time is anyone's guess. What is known is that these Lords of Cinder rekindle the First Flame at the end of every age. With this in mind, there's the small but so far still possible chance that this Lord of Cinder could in fact be the Chosen Undead from DS, which I think would be amazing. Gwyn's resurrection is also possible though to me this seems unlikely as their appearances differ greatly. "It will be open for the player to decide." ~Miyazaki Anyway, I truly am excited for this game. It's definitely bound to add a new level of depth to an already lore-heavy series.

Good news, Gabe and Dave, there are literally undead monster trees in Dark Souls III.

Not enough Dark Souls III here... WE NEED MORE!!!! Yes, we do! Some Let's Plays are already on YouTube. I am tempted to watch, but will hold off until I get a new PC and can play it myself.
