Hello Everyone,
I'm considering buying a new game console in the near future after I find a place to live. I have been scouring the Internet for comparisons of the two hottest gaming consoles on the market, learning the pros and cons of each platform from a more-or-less objective viewpoint whilst wading through a sea of debate from fans of both consoles. I found this review in particular rather helpful.
After much internal deliberation I'm pretty comfortable with my decision...
...
. . .
........the PlayStation 4.
Now, before some people I know beat me upside the head with a NOKIA 3310, hear me out.
Yes, I realize that the Xbox One is an amazing all-in-one multimedia experience; yes, I realize that it will only improve with time as it is evolving constantly and yes, I realize it currently has access to more platform-exclusive games as well first dibs on anything that EA is cooking up. I also know that the majority of my gaming friends who aren't on Steam can be found on Xbox Live.
Finally, yes, I know that Microsoft curb-stomped Sony at E3 2015...
With these points aside, the Xbox One just isn't my cup of tea. What I'm looking for in a game console is ...well, a game console. The PS4 has more memory dedicated to gaming as opposed to allocating much of it for running video streaming and social networking services alongside heaps of additional apps. The PS4 just seems to me more dedicated to gaming in general, hence the faster processor and much simpler OS. Granted, with the Xbox One you certainly get more bang for your buck and thanks to its larger size has a longer lifespan due to more room for air to be circulated.
Online play is no longer free, now requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription and $5 per month. However, having to now pay to play should force Sony to improve upon the quality of their online gaming service. I don't really intend on playing the PS4 online much anyway as I do most online gaming through Steam.
If I want to watch TV (which I really don't do too often tbh), I'll watch via TV or PC. If I want to Skype, I'll use my PC, and for music I'll use my tablet and so on. That's just how I roll.
At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with either as these are both really solid gaming consoles. I believe a choice between them is merely a matter preference and the PS4 caters more to my personal gaming tastes.
Now with that out of the way, I also would like to share two things about the Xbox One I thought were really neat:
Because the XB1 supports HDMI in-port, you can play HDMI out-port consoles (such as the PS4) through an Xbox One.
Also, you can plug the Xbox One into itself for some trippy home screen action:
